JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY:

Heads, plans, oversees, and coordinates the divisional operations of the organization toward the achievement of established operating objectives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Essential Functions:

  1. Collaborates with company leadership in the planning and formulation of organization policies and practices.
  2. Assures organizational compliance with all safety, quality, and environmental, state, local and federal regulations.
  3. Oversees project management, production management, and operational support management for the division, ensuring compliance with established company management model and processes.
  4. Foster a strong safety culture of responsibility and ownership.
  5. Is an ambassador for the organization, promoting the company’s values and ethic, and cultivates good customer relations in a way that upholds its reputation, setting it apart from its competition.
  6. Oversees the design, operation, and improvement of the system that creates and delivers the organization's products or services including tool and equipment warehousing and material deliveries.
  7. Oversees and directs the execution, follow up, and sustainability of planned operating improvements.
  8. Oversees and adjusts organization's processes and operations as necessary to ensure efficient and effective execution of policies and procedure.
  9. Provides operational guidance in analyzing and appraising the effectiveness of organizational operations across the divisions and with its supporting functions.
  10. Participates in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic business and performance goals, short- and long-term objectives, plans, budgets, programs, and policies.
  11. Evaluates operating results and effectiveness throughout the organization to ensure that organization growth and objectives are being met.
  12. Guides, coaches, and leads other members of management.
  13. Assesses operational and organizational structure and recommends changes to adapt to: changing market dynamics, the need for operational improvements, and company growth.
  14. Monitors and recommends capital expenditures for equipment and facility improvements, as well as asset redeployment activities with good Return on Investment assessments.
  15. Responsible for the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of department staff and ensures efficient assignment of resources to meet the fluctuating needs of changing workloads.
  16. Ensures harmonious relationships are maintained with all key customers, suppliers and partners organizations.
  17. Support other company projects and initiatives as required.

AUTHORITY:

The Operations Manager has the authority to make decisions involved with carrying out the above responsibilities. However, the Operations Manager may not, without the approval of the Division Director:

  • Revise compensation, hire or fire any employee reporting directly to the Operations Manager
  • Purchase Capital Assets
  • Business Development initiatives for the division.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Director of Operations. The persons reporting to the Operations Manager are as follows:

  • Project Management and Operational Management personnel.
  • Shared dual reporting of functional area personnel with corporate functional leaders.
  • Other staff as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and working experience with spreadsheets.
  2. Knowledge of cost controls and international logistics support.
  3. Knowledge of accounting practices.
  4. Excellent oral and written communications.
  5. Effective leadership and interpersonal skills.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, Naval Architecture or a degree in another technical discipline. MBA would be an asset; 15 years of senior leadership experience, and minimum of 10 years in a related marine, shipyard, or industrial environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable for the right candidate.Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Able to tour all vessels, piers, docks, and work sites to perform the duties of this job.
  2. Required to stand; walk; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  3. Ability to lift 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  4. Specific vision abilities such as close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus. (Ability to view computer monitors without eye strain for extended periods of time).
